Cross Country County Championships 2014

Today our year 5 and 6 Boys travelled to Hylands Park in Chelmsford for the XC County Champs. This is a huge event with over 100 competitors in each race.  Our boys were great showing superb manners and team spirit throughout the afternoon.  They raced brilliantly and all finished really very well. Although no medals were won today we all thoroughly enjoyed the experience.  Thank you so much to all the parents and grandparents who came along, helped with transport and supported the boys.

Heathlands Has Got Talent!

This term sees the first round of heats for the ever popular Heathlands Has Got Talent.  As it's popular TV counterpart suggests this competition is packed full of incredible talent and skill.  Some of our reporters comment on the forthcoming event.

Isabelle 6FS writes..........Heathlands Has Got Talent is back.  With rehearsals happening non-stop in every available part of the school.  So many pupils have applied for the auditions with amazing talents such as singing, dancing and comedians.  If you haven't signed up yet and would like to give it a go simply speak to your teacher to sign up.  It's simple, give it a go, you could be Heathlands' next winner!

'Heathbands' on sale soon! by Franchesca W 5F

I would like to tell you about a group of Yr 5 girls who are introducing new types of bracelets called 'Heathbands'. Saffron, Lucy and myself have been busy making many styles of Heathbands (bracelets and necklaces) which we hope to sell at school to raise funds for The Tom Bowdidge Foundation and the MACs charity.  Heathbands will be on sale soon at playtimes, we will even be taking orders for particular colours which we hope to have ready in a couple of days.

We hope you will all support our sale for these two very worthy causes.  The Heathband is designed for both boys and girls and look GREAT, even Mr Cranfield wears one! Look out for posters around the school and speak with Saffron, Lucy or Franchesca W 5F for more information.

Maths Competition - 4th March 2014

Today, two teams from years 5 and 6 entered a maths competition at Friars Grove School against 11 other schools.  There were four rounds in our heat with 170 in total schools taking part in various heats.    The first round was about multiples and prime numbers.  The second round was on shapes, we had to organise shapes into different categories.  The third round was all about a murder mystery and it was extremely hard.  The last round was on algebra equations.  Consequently, the year 6 team 1st and will be going through to a final.  The year 5 team did extremely well and came 6th out of everyone and first out of the year 5's.

Wear it Blue Day - The Tom Bowdidge Foundation

Friday 28th February saw the launch of The Tom Bowdidge Foundation.  Sadly,  Mrs Bowdidge's son Tom passed away at the young age of 19 of an extremely rare form of stomach cancer. Heathlands School pupils and parents raised £460 on the day by wearing blue (Tom's favourite colour) and of that, £106.50 came from Mrs Bowdidge's class RBL!  We had a special Assembly attended by Mr and Mrs Bowdidge and daughter Emma.  The children were also each given a smarties tube to take home to enjoy eating and hopefully fill with coins for the Foundation.

Thank you to everyone who supported the launch!

Class show their support for Mrs Bowdidge wearing blue for Tom on the day his foundation is launched.

All in blue at Assembly

Finished Igloo

The EYFS children recently finished their mammoth task of building an Igloo.  They were all very pleased with their achievement.  Well Done!!
